There are many opportunities to volunteer and gain experience in science even in your first year. Ask faculty and staff about volunteer opportunities in research labs, at K.C. Irving Centre (herbarium, seed bank, tissue culture labs, greenhouses, etc.), with Department of Natural Resources, etc. Volunteering is a great way to discover new interests and make connections.
